Curious 3 year old!!!!

Well, I wasn't going to do a post until I uploaded some pictures that I had of our family outing on Friday, but this could not wait. This morning I was checking my email and brinley came walking into my room with this serious look on her face. I asked her what was wrong and she (keeping her seriousness) asked, " mommy, do ants fart?" After about 5 minutes of laughing I told her I didn't know. But that wasn't enough for her. She wanted to know. So for any of you interested in knowing if ants fart then you will appreciate the research brinley and I did on this.

Up until the late 19th century, most zoologists considered this facet of study to be worthless, or altogether disgusting. However, emerging in the late 1980's was pioneering scientist Dr. Pantelis Zografos, of Athens, Greece, who placed single ants under intense magnification (300-400x)He covered the ants with a thin powder, and noticed that ants do indeed create flatulence. (He observed puffs of powder coming off of the ants occasionally.)However, ant "farts" are relatively rare at 1-2 instances per day. (compared to the average human at 14-16 per day)Also, ants do not excrete at the behind, but rather at a point near the center of the body. I hope this helps!

ohh that is too funny! She totally cracks me up. After I talked to you yesterday Brielle just kept talking about how brave Brinley is to kill the ants by herself. Love IT!

That's awesome! I never would have thought to research ant farts! I would have just said "no honey", and left it that that. You rock, and so does Brinley!
